If you have ever been to SCAD then you know about the frequently seen wild colored hair styles. This Data Visualization project started as a study of those various colors that the people of the SCAD community were dying their hair. Designed to persuade and inform this really fun study generated a great data set resulting in two really cool experiential design deliverables for the SCAD community in celebration of their extraordinarily creative hair dying skills.

 

I named this project Ride or Dye because I did my research by riding my bike to various SCAD buildings all over Savannah and sketching with colored pencils the hair dye colors I observed... and I was also thinking about the best way to share that data with the population it was generated from... I used the original sketches from my Moleskine, scanned all of the pages and created a series of posters that would be draped over concrete form half arcs hanging in a hallway with invisible thread to give the illusion of floating hair in the hallway.
